Repairs

I do some repairs - I work within my limits and the equipment I have available.
Please contact me and I will help if I can, but I will say if I don't think I can do the job.

I can often, for example:

  • straighten bent items
  • replace combs
  • convert single earrings to necklaces
  • repair broken joints
  • stretch rings

I can't:

  • retip stone settings
  • replace bands on engagement rings

Whilst I will take great care of item given to me, I do not accept any responsibility for additional damage or breakage as I attempt the repair. I will ask you to confirm you agree to this by signing a form you can download here.

Bracelet repair - before What you see to the left is a cast bracelet which was too small, but of personal value to the owner, who wishes to be able to wear it.  I copied the pattern using delft clay casting and inserted a 10 mm section which you can see on the right.  One satisfied owner! Medal suspender and bar - before

When the recipient of a medal died, sometime the widow had it made into a brooch.  I have done a number of exercises to regenerate the medal.  My customer provides the components - bars and suspenders as appropriate to the owner of the medal - and I reassemble it. Just below for an example where I worked on the medal too.

Medal suspender and bar - after
Medal - before This medal had been 'converted' to a brooch. I removed the debris and fixed a new suspender that had been made elsewhere. Metal - after
Golbet before repair These show one of set of silver goblets that had been damaged in transit that I restored. Golbet after repair
Wine stopper before repair The cork on the left had snapped and been glued together, but I replaced the cork completely. Wine stopper after repair
Original ring The owner of the ring on the left had worn off the plating. I created a very similar looking ring entirely of fine silver. Fine silver is soft, so with continual use it will wear away, but it won't change colour. New ring
Watch strap repair - before
This silver watch strap had worn through in a couple of places. Some careful soldering restore it to good working order. Watch strap repair - after
Comb - before This comb was lacking some teeth, though it had more than shown here. The owner provided a new comb. I removed the old one and fitted the new. Comb - after
Whistle - before This whistle had been caught in a door jamb and was crushed. I managed to remove most of the damage, though it didn't whistle - at least I couldn't hear it, but I am losing my high frequency response. Whistle - after
Peridot ring This beautiful peridot had fallen out of the original claw setting. The owner disliked the claw setting as it tended to catch on things. I replaced the claw setting with a bezel setting.
Cartouche chain shortened A simple case of shortening two chains to allow this cartouche to sit at the desired height. I used the surplus chain to make matching earrings.
